akeelah and the bee has really gotten my mind into those useless vocabulary words that are long and fun to say and interesting to share with others ... I will probably have these things on my mind until I see the movie (if I so choose to do so)

Anyway, I have been up way too late at night this week and need to get to bed early tonight ... I am going to see the Yankees tomorrow night, and have to take the train to work in the morning and that means waking up around five am.

enough blabbing -- so off I go into the room with gryphen to watch some west wing and then catch some long awaited zees. ciao for now!

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

my rangers blew it tonight for home ice advantage .. but I will be pulling for them as the playoffs begin Friday night versus the Devils of New Jersey.

Shane is looking for a new job and I am excited for him with all the new opportunities that have presented themselves (many earlier today!)

I'm going to see BILLY JOEL in concert tonight (Wednesday) at long last at Madison Square Garden and if you could not tell, I am extraordinarily excited (I am in the first row of my section)

spring break has been more than amazing for me and I have really appreciated the time to recuperate and do the daily Times crossword puzzle, sleep in late, eat leisurely, spend wonderful time with Shaney

I'm going to get ready for bed now, until next time ......

Monday, February 06, 2006

after it has been so terribly long, the very least I could do is sign in and say hello. things are okay with me these days, got a good job, got a good office, got a new [husband], got a new life, and the family's fine ... oh ... lost touch long ago, lost weight, I did not know ... you could ever look so nice after so much time ..... do you remember those days hangin' out at the village green? Engineer boots, leather jackets and tight blue jeans. Drop a dime in the box, play a song about New Orleans. Cold beer. Hot lights. My sweet romantic teenage nights.

i am also preparing (more front-mindedly) for my brother's wedding, which is taking place in ten days. TEN DAYS!!!!!!!!!! i still have to finish my speech! I am, of course, the best man, you see. i have to wow everyone, but most of all, my brother.

that is all for now. good for me for writing again. how therapeutic.

Sunday, February 20, 2005

WOW. what a long time since writing.

Well, you'll never guess where I am.

St. Christopher's Village, 161-165 Borough High Street, Southwark, London SE1, England, UK

Having the time of my life with my dearest partner (and now international travel partner!) Shane ... we landed last evening and had an exciting first day of settling in, getting used to the time change, catching up to a regular eating, breathing, and living schedule after yesterday's nightmarish night/day/night, during which we slept nearly zero hours, ate hardly any food whatsoever, and made every attempt to pack ONLY what we thought we would need for this trip, meanwhile we seem to have brought amazingly much too much.

I'm going to go now since Shane is going to go on the computer and I want to conserve our pence pieces.

off of work on tuesday, today i was still hacking up a few chunkc of
lung at school and at grad school, but at least i have been in much
higher spirits and feelings.

tomorrow night is parent-teacher conferences ... so i am not really
dreading the concept, it is really quite nice to meet many of the
parents of my students --- especially those parents who have been
difficult to reach via phone calls so far this year. i know i
will be dreadfully tired by evening's end, but i am sure i will
appreciate thanksgiving weekend's rest evermore so. i have two
clep tests to take on saturday (college algebra AND trigonometry ---
blech!) so i really have to build up my knowledge / memory levels
in the nex 48 hours or so to complete my "preparation" ... THANK YOU
LIZZIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

off to chill out upstairs before schloofie times.

robbie, and his friend brian. it was fabulous!!!!!!!!! sure
it was only their fourth preview so there were definitely some things
to which some attention needed to be paid ... and there were a few
interesting moments (here and there) ... but overall, I LOVED IT!

what a fabulous show and a message ... "i am what i am" ... gay,
straight, man, woman, one gender, one sex, or another. if only
more people would get that simple message through their thick-as-ice
skulls. i do NOT think that people should stop believing in "god"
or some other heigher authorities ... what I DO think is that people
should think for their OWN good with their OWN "god-given" minds and
interpret what they see with their INTUITIVE minds.

SURELY it takes effort and failed attempts to learn how to use our
intuition, how to accept the fact that we are living, breathing beings,
that we may actually have a role to play in our grander scheme of
things. who the hell knows? AT THE VERY LEAST, YOU CAN TRY
TO THINK CRITICALLY, on your own, using your THINKING SKILLS.

I mean, one of the most difficult parts of my daily grind at my junior
high school is working with and talking to students (mostly 11- and
12-year olds), many of whom have not yet learned how to think using
their own minds, but wait (im)patiently for directions on how to
oftentimes perform extremely rudimentary skills and operations.
WE MUST take this time in the PRESENT to teach our children and young
people how to question, how to suppose, how to wonder, and how to act
on these curiosities instead of waiting for a friend to "IM" the answer
over, or "googling" the problem and "Asking Jeeves" to tell the answer.

RAH RAH SISS BOOM BAH

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

CRITICAL THINKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thursday, November 11, 2004

ok, so we do commemorate veterans on this Veteran's Day, 11/11 ... and
since my dad served in the us army reserves, i have always known the
potential for loss of life very dear to me ... if he hadn't had the
knee injury that he did, he may have eventually had to go to
vietnam. let's just not go there.

slowly but surely been paying off the bill for the airline tix for
shane and i to go to london during president's week in february.
looking SO much forward to the trip. we should be getting our
first passports in the mail very soon. it has been a few weeks
already since we applied. it's been nearly 3 weeks out of the
potential 6 that it could take to receive them in the mail. can't
wait!!!!!!!!

i have an extra hour (argh) of class tonight at adelphi since we want
to eliminate the last session during the week of christmas (the last
week of classes this semester) so we're in for a looooooooooong evening
on this day. sheesh. but perhaps i'll be able to present my
word problem lesson and get it OVER with (to be done with for good for
now, at least).

i'm in the middle of watching "control room" about al-jazeera.
very interesting so far. also in the middle of watching disc one
of the first season of the transformers (circa 1984) ... and on the way
-- from netflix, an awesome movie-renting deal -- is disc one of the
very first season of gi joe (real american hero) ... even though that
series focused on war and "fighting the enemies" ... i loved the
silliness of it all in general. will be worth watching again 20
years later to see what was so amusing as a child. will report
back on that soon.

gotta run now, need to do some laundry before class. need clean
clothes for work. also have to find a book we sold today on
half.com so i can send it tomorrow.

bye for now.
Tuesday, November 09, 2004

wow, xanga. heh.

i am preparing for tonight's yoga class ... well, not really preparing,
but just chilling out here online. i had a good day at work, i
damned-near wanted to kill my mid-afternoon class today for misbehaving
during out fantabulous lesson on prisms and pyramids and the
similarities and differences therein. phew.

PRISMS have two bases (that must be polygons) that are opposite,
parallel and congruent and are connected by sides/faces (at vertices)
that are parallelograms.

PYRAMIDS have one base (that also must be a polygon) and is opposite
the vertx created/formed by the meeting of all of the sides/faces that
are triangles.

there, now you know

[and knowing is half the battle]

i'm going now ... it was nice to share for a little. i really should do it more again. yeah.
